Stained glass windows to "Block A View"
So often there is a window in a home that looks out onto a view that you would rather not see.
Instead of using blinds or curtains, an artistic alternative to blocking a view is to create a beautiful stained glass window that will not only block a view but also add an interesting touch to your decor.
For the stained glass sunflower piece, we selected the blue transparent artique glass as the background as it blocked the view but it still allowed light to filter into the dining area.
For the stained glass sunflowers, leaves and stem, we selected semi-opaque glasses so that you could not see through. These glasses added texture and gave the sunflowers more prominence in the glass piece.
With larger installations you should reinforce your glass piece when you are building it.
What is Re-Strip and why use it?
I soldered zinc reinforcing bars all around the backside of the frame plus used re-strip through various parts of the glass work itself.
Re-strip is a ribbon of hard copper that comes in rolls and is used to reinforce stained glass projects, both copper foil and lead.
Re-strip is as effective as iron rebar in reinforcing panels, yet it is not visible in a finished work. Re-Strip is only .010" thick and 5/32" wide.
For the copper foil artist, it is amazing how much additional strength occurs when Re-Strip is added.
Re-Strip is available from you local stained glass art supplier.
